House Hunting

Today we are going to see 2 houses that are for sale in the same neighborhood. We drove by these houses this past weekend because photos can be deceiving!

This house had landscaping that even I couldn't find fault with. I might say that they did a better job than I could have! This is my favorite style house ... a cape cod with a big porch. Mr. F and I thought it would be a no brainer to add a couple of dormers on the main section of the house.

The interior of this house is darn near perfect.

Ok, maybe not the kitchen : )  And those of you who follow me know the reason for the smiley face! The wonderful thing about this house is that the listing price is $30,000 less than the maximum that we want to pay - meaning we could still re-do the kitchen and add the dormers and still be under our max price. Remember we are diy-ers!

They had me until I got to this photo. Having only girls, I had to ask Mr. F what this contraption was. Definitely would ask them to remove it! Not sure if you could sell it on Craiglist.

The second house looks much better in person and is on a bigger culdesac lot. The listing price is $50,000 below our maximum price. However, and this is a BIG however...this house reminds me of The Winchester House with it's many, uh, odd additions. A shed comes with the house which is great, but it is just to the left of the garage, just out of the view of the picture.

And this kitchen definitely is in need of a complete tearout because of the layout.

I could definitely do something wonderful with this Master Bedroom, though!

SERIOUSLY! What were they thinking!

Here's the odd addition that truly I have no idea if this can be fixed or made better. There is a sunroom that is very small, but very tall ... the proportion of the sunroom is what I am concerned with, the Victorian design could be changed. So this house is less expensive, has a bigger lot, but needs more work. Not sure if we want to do a lot of work on a house after all of the projects we completed in the last 12 months at our house!

Hope you enjoyed the little house hunting tour and my ramblings!
Have a great Tuesday!!!
Pam

  1. My favorite is the first one. I love the style of the house and of course the porch. The landscape is gorgeous. The house has great curb appeal. The dormers would look great. I lived in San Jose for 24 yrs. and never went to the Winchester Mystery House. LOL Have you been there? Good luck with your house hunting. I can't wait to see more.
    Have a great day!

  4. Lord have mercy, in what part of the country do you live? I swear, in Connecticut.. you have to pay $250,000 to get a beat up, two bedroom ranch with a roach infestation.

    Love the first one!

  5. I love the first one! Have you sold your house yet? I think you could definitely sell the batting cage. They're a really big deal in our area. In fact, we had a special homeowners association meeting about them the other week.

  6. I love the first one. Now are the room really big. Our house is so small, if we ever move again, I am definitely going for size. Thanks for the tour. Hugs, Marty

  8. I like the first house - you had me at the porch which is a must for me! As far as the second house, that wallpaper is going to be a nightmare to remove!

Good luck in whichever you choose!

  9. Thanks, ladies! We really loved the white house with the front porch. We could definitely move right in. The front yard is soooo wonderfully landscaped and the house had plenty of storage. The upstairs bedrooms were spacious, but the master closet and the kitchen were a little small...but we are downsizing! When I walked into my house it felt huge! We are definitely keeping this one at the top of the list. Now all we have to do is sell ours!

  10. Mercy, that first one is adorable. But think of all the possibilities for the shed at #2. Art studio, potting shed, blogging spot?! You cracked me up not knowing what the batting cage was. It looks like a really nice one too!

  11. The first house had a huge shed ... but that is for Mr. F. We have a 3 car garage and we're going down to 2 ... but the bonus room is MINE :)

  12. I just wanted to make sure that you knew that the cloche party wasn't just for cloches. You can use a cheese/cake dome, apothecary jar or hurricane. Any and everything that you can decorate inside is fair game and makes it all the more interesting. Hope you will join the fun. Hugs Marty
