What To Do With All Those Leftover Paint Samples

This weekend we started on giving our dining room a new coat of paint. It's been red for many years and I was ready for a change.

Remember all the paint samples I bought trying to choose a color for the dining room? There really wasn't any more room on the paint shelf in the garage to store these paint samples and I wanted to use them up on something, so................

They were mixed up in a bucket and used for the first few coats of paint over the deep red.

Funny thing...the color turned out REALLY pretty! A light pastel grayish green. This shade of green is what I'd been looking for at the beginning, but in the end we chose a bluish grey because it goes better with the furniture, china and other accessories used in the dining room.

I was really worried that I would like this color better than the grey, but the grey is really wonderful too.
Still have another coat of bluish grey to paint on the walls this evening and of course, the trim has to have a new coat of paint, too! Guess what I'm doing this week?!
Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Pam

  1. That is a pretty color Pam. I have several samples too. I painted a mirror over the weekend and hope to use other samples for a couple more projects. I like your idea of mixing them.

Looking forward to seeing your "new" dining room.

We did some furniture moving yesterday. I hope to get a dining room post up sometime today. I'll have a close up of the chair slipcovers in the post.

  6. Pam, I love the new wall color. What color did you use? Is it silver mist?

  7. Wow! You're brave! Your color is so pretty. If most of us did this the color would probably look like mud! :)

  9. What a great idea Pam! I think it is beautiful even with the mixed up color so I can't wait to see what your "real" color is going to look like. I was standing in my dining room this weekend and thinking about how you are transforming yours and how I can't wait for some great inspiration! :-)

  10. Love that grayish green but bet the bluish gray will be amazing, too!! Can't wait to see it when it's finished. But I'm like Sheila, if I had tried mixing all those colors, it probably would looked like mud or something even worse.

  11. Can't wait to see it all done. It's gonna be hard to beat that pretty green! I probably missed it somewhere, but are you painting the chandelier or getting a new one?

  12. That was a good use of those extra paints. I know you needed it too with having to paint over the burgandy. Our dining room used to be red before the blue I have now and it took me 3 coats of primer. I love the sample mix color. It reminds me of my old dining room color at our old house. I bet the new one is going to be pretty too. Can't wait!

  14. Pam, you have confirmed my thoughts that great minds think alike. I, too, mix all my leftover paint (well -- maybe not ALL) to come up with some great colors. Makes me feel like a mad scientist. I LOVE your new color!

  17. The deep red color had an elegance to it, but the lighter color feels so fresh and open...I like it better!

  18. Our local high schools love left over paints or Opps! paint, that they can use on their stage props for their school plays. Local theatres will welcome them also. Sometimes pre-school or nursery schools will also welcome FREE Paint.

Your home is beautiful and tastefully decorated. Take a bow!
