Dining Room Reveal

The Dining Room is painted! There is still quite a bit to do to get it to where  I would like it to be, but painting it was a big start and really changed the look a lot!

Here's what the Dining Room looked like before we painted:

Red and gold... and a lot of it!

My new china cabinet that I found on Craigslist against the old red faux finished paint...

Everything was cleared out except for the china cabinet.

Here's after ~ our new grey Dining Room... definitely lighter and brighter.

The china was moved to the new china cabinet and linens are now stored in my old buffet.

I haven't decided whether we're going to hang my grandmother's mirror above the buffet or another piece of artwork. The lamp bases are definitely going to be painted.

The curtain panels were kept, but the valance was taken down.

A folding "tv" tray is used to hold a few of Mr. Fanatic's libations. The footed mirror tray was my mother's.

To lighten things up a little more, I plan on making some white slipcovers  and pillows for the dining room chairs.
Here's the original design plan:

The wall color is Secret Passage by Olympic, but was mixed in Valspar eggshell finish. The ceiling is Valspar Summer Grey in their eggshell finish and the trim paint is Valspar Kitchen and Bath Brilliant White in semigloss
Total spent on paint and supplies ~ apx $100 ~(6 paint samples one gallon wall paint, 1 gallon trim paint-have 2 quarts left, tape, new paint brush)

Thanks for stopping by!

Pam

  1. Oh yes, this made a huge difference! Made it so light and bright. Oh, but that dark color was quite popular at one time!

  10. MARVELOUS- best word to describe! I'm loving it...
The furniture stands out so much more now! What are you going to do to the lamp bases? The lamps stand off the wall nicely...good contrast..they work with the curtain color and the chandelier. Elegant room..great job!

  15. Love the new look!! The blue is such a pretty shade and so brightens up your room. The picture frame wainscoting is wonderful (I know there is a better term for it but it has completely left my pea brain).

Was reading that brass is the new "in" so you may want to keep those lamps as is if you are into current trends- not that I am but it made me feel good since I have so much brass around my house!

  16. It's beautiful! I love, love, love the wall color. I think it makes the crown moulding really pop. I had to look back and see if you added the crown as part of the project, because I didn't notice it as much with the darker paint. Well done!

  31. I really enjoyed your post. It's funny because I had the exact same color scheme in my diningroom--gold and red. I left the gold walls because the bottom half of the walls is covered in a vintage raised paneling like yours but changed window treatments and am still looking for a rug. I added natural colored curtain panels and added black and gray accents. Thanks for your inspiration.
