Fading Hydrangeas

My jute wrapped glass vase filled with fresh hydrangeas has been making the rounds...You first saw it on a shelf in my daughter's bookcase, then outside on the little painted table on the basement patio. Now, it looks great on the dining table in our Breakfast Room.

Do you want to know a secret? Until a year or so ago, I really didn't like my Breakfast Room. I didn't care for my breakfast table and chairs either. A different color paint on the wall, some inexpensive Ikea curtains and a round table found on Craigslist that replaced a too large rectangular table made all the difference in the world. I even like my chairs now.

This blue and green tablesetting is one of my favorites. You've seen it before awhile back.

Thought I'd throw in a photo of the french baguettes that Mr. Fanatic made last night. As you might imagine, there's not a lot leftover.

Just an FYI...the hydrangeas are real. They are from my neighbor's yard and they have faded to a beautiful green and light blue. A few weeks ago the flowers on the plants were  a gorgeous shade of blue.

Is there a room in your house that you didn't like before you gave it a makeover?
Would love to hear about it.

Pam

  1. Oh I love your dining area, it is gorgeous and I love your table and chairs too. Gorgeous tablescape. The blue square plates are so pretty and the hydrangeas are stunning. Yes, I didn't like my whole house, but finally am getting the furniture down to a scale that fits, so much better. Hugs, Marty

  3. Your breakfast room looks similar to mine -- love the way your window treatment looks! Your table is very appealing, too -- love the blue and green together, plus the textures from the burlap and the hydrangeas.

  5. When we bought our house two years ago, we really did not like the drab gray color throughout. It looked cold and lifeless. We decided to paint, using Shaker Beige by Benjamin Moore. Just that alone warmed up the whole house. I love your table. The chargers are perfect for the green setting.

  6. I love your breakfast room...it's so inviting and pretty! The hydrangeas are gorgeous. I can't seem to get mine to dry, they just droop and die. Any tips?

  11. Hi Pam!
I love your dining room! I like all the changes you made and the chairs and table!
Pretty much every room has been on my hit list for some years now! I think I'm going to kick back and enjoy what I've done and leave it a lone for a while!

  12. Really? You didn't like this pace or its contents??? It looks pretty roomy and very inviting, unlike our breakfast nook which is cramped by my standards. I just want to take a sledgehammer to the breakfast bar in there!!! And I'd like to take a hammer to the windows, too, and replace them with French doors. I keep threatening! :-) I love the jute-covered vase. VERY cool!!!!! Your neighbor is quite lucky to have any flowers after this horrible drought! The ones you have there are beautiful!!!

  14. So much to love about your dining area. The round table is just perfect in the space and now you have a new appreciation for those great chairs. Those square plates are so pretty and the centerpiece sets everything off just right. Nothing like real flowers!
