What To Do With An Extra Bedroom

Our oldest daughter moved to Southern California more than a year ago.
We already have a guest room and a bonus room...and a basement, so we really don't need an extra room for anything.
Don't hate me.

Here's what our daughter's room looked like when she lived here, although the floor was covered with all of her clothes.
Just keepin' it real.

Here's what her room looked like when she left. It stayed like this for awhile, then I moved the dresser downstairs to the foyer.

I keep tablecloths, napkins and placemats in the dresser.

I found a new coverlet at HomeGoods and bought a bedskirt online and the extra bedroom looked very plain for a long time.

The dark purple curtains are great for making the room really dark when you want to sleep in, but I wanted to make the room a little brighter without having to paint. Maybe we'll tackle that  project sometime in the future.

I bought some white curtains and hooks from Ikea an put the sheer white up.

I changed out the lamp with one that was in our youngest daughter's room.

Our youngest didn't use her down comforter, so it ended up in this room, as well.
Here's the room after the curtains, comforter and lamp. My daughter's friends always sleep in here when they stay over.
Hope you had a nice weekend.
I think I'm finally getting a little energy back. At least I had a little last night.
It's a good thing because things are really piling up around here.
If you had an extra room in your house, what would you do with it? Would love to know.

  2. Ok, so yea, I'm hating on you right now, lol!! Seriously, I love her room, Pam! I always love sheer white panels with colored walls. We desperately need an extra room so the two girls don't have to share, and I'd like to get the recording studio out of the MBR. So technically, I need three extra rooms, or at least one and a basement so I also have somewhere to sew besides the MBR. Not happening, so I'll just dream about it:-)

  4. I would love an extra room. I have never had one so I don't know what I would do with it. You are so lucky. Love your changes, the room looks super. Hugs, Marty

  5. It's a great room!!! Not sure what I would do but I definitely make a purpose for the room like you did! I wouldn't want it to turn into unused space and storage.

  6. I am jealous that you have and "extra" room.
    I live in southern California....
My girls moved out, one room became a guest room and the other is the "craft" room.
Come for a visit to my blog....

  7. Girl... I so get it. Our house is way to big for us We essentially have three extra bedrooms. We use our Master, Jemma is in her room and we have a room connected to hers with a jack and jill bath and a guest room with its own bath! We also finished the basement and guess what is down there... a bedroom! I only have one fixed up right now as a guest room and the other is filled to the brim with junk that needs a home! The basement room is set up like a grocery store! We are blessed so I can't complain! I love how you have pulled items from other rooms and made it so cozy!

  8. Mostly living in city-spaces and extra room is usually "found" in an unused corner or, at a local coffee shop ; ) That being said, I'd turn the extra room into an office/project space.

  10. I like the changes....we have dark walls too and the cream curtains help to lighten things up. Looks nice! I would make an extra room a great workroom with some kind of organized (pretty) storage for all the decorative pieces that aren't being used at the moment ;) My closets and attic are full of stuff!

  11. The room looks nice with the white curtains and the added linens. But I think your cat has claimed it already! Love it. Our cat has claimed all of our rooms. They tend to do that, don't they? Have a great week. ~ Angie
