How We Made A Curved Apron For A Countertop

This post is for the those who would love to know how we made the curved apron for the wood countertop for the Worlds Smallest Half Bath.

C,mon, aren't you a little curious?

I can't wait to show you because Mr. DIY is a genius. It's so nice to have a husband who can build the things I think up.
Here we go...

The countertop looked great in the bathroom, but we knew we wanted to cover up the front of the sink and the plumbing with a fabric skirt, so an apron need to be attached to the countertop.

When our girls we little, Mr. DIY and I made a garden gate headboard with a curved top and used a jig  to bend it. But, because the countertop was only 32" wide with 2 bends in it, Mr. DIY said the wood had to be bent with steam.
So, after watching a few videos on Youtube, he started building a steam box.

Since oak bends easier than other wood, he bought  3 pre-cut pieces of  oak that were 1/4" x 3" wide x 36". He then put them inside the box and the next step was to fill the box with steam.
I know this is an unconventional use of the HomeRight Steam Machine, but it was the only thing that he could think of to get steam inside the box.  He had to fill up the Steam Machine twice.  He left the pieces of wood in the steam box about 30 minutes.

The thin pieces of oak were immediately taken out of steam box and put into a curved jig, which Mr. DIY made from tracing the countertop onto some scraps of particle board. The jig is made from 2 pieces and I helped him hold the clamps as he tightened  the jig with all the clamps, squeezing the pieces of wood inside.

After leaving them in the jig for a week, Mr. DIY glued them together and left it cure for 24 hours.
Then, he cut the ends. off .

The apron was then attached to the countertop with L brackets.

I painted the apron with the same paint as the Faux Plank Wall.

I love when a project turns out really well, especially when you have no idea how it's going to turn out when you first start.
