A Decadent (Gluten Free) Chocolate Dessert

It was my birthday on Monday and I asked Mr. DIY to make me a gluten free, flourless chocolate cake.
It was a big deal for me and I couldn't wait to have a piece because I haven't had any sugar in over two months.

Yep,
that included Christmas (and two weeks before that)

You see, I've been on a no gluten, no sugar, no dairy diet since then.
I'll share the reason why some other time.

I found the recipe on Confections of A Foodie Bride while scouring Pinterest about a month ago.
She calls her creation the American Beauty Cake. You can find the recipe and instructions on the link.

Mr. DIY's cake turned out as rich looking as the photo above, I didn't  get a photo with my good camera or good lighting because we were all anxious to eat the cake!

Do you blame us?

Mr. DIY made me a gluten free, flourless chocolate cake many, many years ago, but this one was even better.

Our round spring form pan broke, but we happened to have a heart shaped spring form pan, so that's what he used.

The only difference between the cake Mr. DIY made and the American Beauty cake is that he didn't put corn syrup in the glaze and left out the liquor.
Formerly being a pastry chef (don't be hatin' on me ladies), he knew to increase the chocolate chips when he left out the corn syrup. (he doubled the amount of the chocolate chips)

This cake is so rich, our daughter and I couldn't finish our little slices of cake even though it was soooo good. I think my favorite part of the cake was the top layer with a little whipped cream.
It was definitely worth breaking my for.

  1. Well first off Happy Birthday! I can't help but be jealous of your husband's talents and that he does nice things for you like this! That cake looks decadent! My daughter is on a gluten free, dairy free diet. She did it for a health reason and it seems to be working for her. I don't know why your blog doesn't update on my side-bar. It's a big mystery!

Oh, well, I just thought you might like to know that some of us no longer receive your feed in case you're wondering where some of your commenters have gone.

    1. Thanks Susan! Hope you see this reply as I couldn't find your email on your blog. I'm not sure why your feed isn't working...It's not working on other blogs, as well and I don't know why. You might want to delete my blog and follow again to see if that corrects it. I was having the same problem with Bloglovin not updating and I contacted them and they were able to correct it on their end. Thanks for stopping by.
