Final Spring Basement Patio

Don't you just love the sound of a good rain?
One where you can hear the rain coming down a good bit.... A drenching rain that soaks the ground and waters the lawn without being a gully washer.

That's what we had last night; a good bit of rain. We sure needed it because this Spring, so far, has been pretty dry. It was overcast today, but I went out and took photos of our basement patio anyway.

I'm currently getting  the outdoor spaces ready and staged for when we put the house on the market in May.  I didn't plan it this way, but  the basement patio was finished first.

We had someone come and give everything a good powerwashing and the mulch was spread this year by someone other than Mr. DIY and me, so those big Spring chores were taken care of. I just had to purchase some ferns and flowers to plant. Here's the view from the french doors in our basement family room.

I purchased a new cushion and some pillows online from TJ Maxx.com awhile back. This is my favorite outdoor spot, so it has to be a comfy spot. It's below the main floor deck and is a cool spot except in the hottest part of the summer.

This is the view of the backyard from the bench. I'm going to miss this spot when we move. The garden is going to be more difficult to leave behind that the inside of the house.

I was in the garden today and took this video. All of the liriope( aka monkey grass - the green round mounds) originated from a couple of plants that a handyman brought me from his garden 16 years ago after we moved in. I divided them every year until it was a whole grove! I have even more from the same few plants in several other places in the yard.

Hope you enjoyed the tour!

Pam

  1. Of course I always enjoy seeing your gardens but I didn't realize you had such a nice view from the room. I'm glad to know you got help this year with the mulch. You surely don't need to stress your body with all that labor. I'm rooting for you that the home will sell quickly and you can find your new home easily!

  5. That outdoor bench look like a perfect space to just sit and watch the world go buy. You just need a little table or side unit to put a stubbie or glass of wine on to complete the look!

    1. Thanks Thomas! I had a little table that used to be next to the bench, but we brought it to our mountain cottage. Our house just went on the market today, so I won't be bringing it back!

  6. As long as you have clothes in the storage closet or laundry room and not out getting dried, I'm all set for the rain! Especially if you're about to get into bed, sleep would be wonderful with the pattering of rain outside your window!

  7. The view from your patio is great! I was looking from some ideas for my client (I'm a decorative concrete contractor) when I came across your post. I love how the woods connect powerfully with your exterior. But I bet it might look creepy at night? Just kidding. I love the design and I'm thinking of recreating something like this once our client approves my proposals! Thank you for this!

    1. Thanks Lisa! This space was my favorite place to sit and relax at our last house. We have a similar space at our new house, but the deck(screened porch) is lower and I haven't decorated it yet. Hopefully, I'll have it decorate it next Spring. Still lots to do at our new house.

    1. Thanks John! I really loved this spot. I have something similar at our new house but the deck avoce is only high enough for me to stand up in and it needs a lot of work!Maybe next Spring.
