Spring Cleaning and Organizing

*This post contains affiliate links

Mr. DIY  is working on a wood project to give to our granddaughter and I'll share it soon.

In the meantime...

Temps are warming up around the Carolinas, which means one thing:

It's time for a little Spring cleaning, organizing and time to freshen things up.

I'll be starting in my kitchen and bathrooms, cleaning out cabinets and drawers.

Start with the basics:

CLEANING SUPPLIES

I use all of these, with the exception of the Pink Stuff Magic Stuff Cleaner.

It's a #1 Best Seller in All Purpose Cleaners on Amazon, so I'm going to have to try it.

If you've tried it, let me know what you think in the comments below.

A SIMPLE TIP
I cut Magic Erasers in half and place in cabinet in EVERY sink in the house in a Command Caddy.
I've done this at our home and at our Mountain House. Keeping them handy makes it so simple to take a few seconds to keep sinks clean.

Next on my list after cleaning and clearing out cabinets

Replace drawer liner with Contact Grip Liner.

This is still on my to do list. The Grip liner will keep things in the drawer (including the liner) from shifting.

I don't know about you, but I could use some use some new food containers that look nice and have lids.

Now I'm getting ahead of myself and my list is getting too long! I still have a list for outdoors and planting seeds and....

FAVORITE "CHEAT"

For all the rooms that I still need to do some Spring Cleaning in, I'll be spraying my favorite Honeysuckle Room Spray by Meyers. Have you tried it?

Love. Love. Love!

DIY Custom Spice Cabinet Shelf

 This post contains affiliate links

Don't you love little projects that you can make from leftover wood from other projects,  cost nothing, only take  an hour or so from start to finish and make your life easier?
I know I do!

This would be a great, expensive project even if you have to purchase a few pieces of wood from your local hardware store.

I organize my savory and baking spices on separate shelves.
This project is for my savory spices.

After clearing out the savory spice shelf, Mr. DIY took some measurements.

I  planned to put 2 large clear Command Caddies on the door to organize the spices even more and to have 2 rows of spice bottles inside the cabinet.
The space in front of the shelf had to accommodate one row of spices plus the depth of a Command caddy with the door closed.

Depth of cabinet - depth of spice bottle - depth of large Command Caddy - a little wiggle room = depth of shelf...
In our case - 6 3/4"
I hope that makes sense...it will at the end.

Mr. DIY had a leftover  1 x 8 piece of poplar  that was ripped to 6 3/4", which was perfect for the depth of our spice shelf.
He cut that piece to the width of the inside of our cabinet, which is 19 1/2" wide.

Then, he cut two 1 x 2s to 19 1/2"

Next, Mr. DIY pre drilled/countersunk the holes.

The finished shelf is 2 1/2" high x 6 3/4" deep.
Mr. DIY screwed the shelf together, but since the width is so snug, he took the pieces apart...

...and screwed the shelf together inside the cabinet.

There are two rows of spices on the shelf. The very back row is where I put a backup jar of something or a spice we rarely use.
The front row on the shelf are spices I use more often.

The spices in the front row (not on the shelf) are spices I use the most.
You can see that I moved some of the spices up because they are used more often.

The spices we use most are on the door in the large Command Caddy.

Here's how my the savory spice section of my spice cabinet looks now.

Now, on to organize the baking spice shelf!

A Place For Everything and Everything In It's Place- In The Kitchen

Is your Spring Cleaning finished yet?

Nope, mine's not finished either.

I did wash a lot of pollen off the front porch today, but I think that's about it for me.
I do love to keep organized and clean things out, but I tend to do an area at a time, rather than
the whole house.
The kitchen is one area that I like to keep organized. Being organized helps you keep things clean and makes it easy to find things when you need them.

For being organized, my motto is " a place for everything, and everything in it's place"
