Granite Being Installed Friday!!!

I went & picked out my slab of granite this morning. The countertops were fabricated today(Thursday) & will be installed tomorrow. Mr. Fanatic is installing the tile backsplash this weekend. I thought I'd show you a couple of photos of my kitchen since I think I have only posted a photo of the corner beside the oven.I borrowed my daughter's new Nikon SLR camera to take these photos- I am going to have to buy myself one.

I really don't like this kitchen at all. I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but I am a kitchen designer & know exactly what I would do if we were staying in this house 5 more years. The first thing I would do is remove the bar and put in an island. I also would extend the cabinetry to the left of the refrigerator(I would build in the refrig) so that a rangetop could fit on that side. It would have a fabulous raised hood with corbels... Of course, the cabinets would be painted white with the island being painted black with 4 decorative legs. The double ovens would be 30" instead of 27" ( & would be in the proper size cabinet) and the microwave would be in a cabinet next to it. The sink would face the Family Room & the run on that side would end with the dishwasher. The awkward opening to the hallway would look  much better if it had an archway. And this is why we never got around to doing the granite!

Ahhh, but I digress!  This is what I picked our at the beginning of the week. The granite slab actually has a little more color in it.The black is a little blacker & the tan isn't quite so dull. I always marvel when I see big slabs of stone because  it is amazing to me that it comes out of the ground & is so beautiful!
It has been a busy week even though school has been out for over a week. How about you? I still feel like I am running on a hamster cage! Hopefully, everything will come together soon.
Once the granite & backsplash are installed I can give you the whole house tour!

Thanks for stopping by,

Pam

  1. Can't wait to see it Pam! I can only imagine how your kitchen drove you crazy...it is your line of work, like you mentioned. I love my kitchen lay out...it is open to the Family room, and great for entertaining....and we had nothing to do with any of it...just a good builder who knew what he was doing...for us anyhow. I am sure others would change things. He also put in nice granite and back splash...really nothing I would change:) I really like the granite and back splash you picked too!

  5. How exciting! I redid my kitchen last November. Was thrilled to have granite. I am really pleased with the outcome. I have a rather different (so I've been told) backsplash. You might check on my blog for back in November. It didn't take anytime at all for the men to put it in. The granite was amazing. They told me it weighed over 300 lbs. You'll want to take pictures for sure when yours is installed. Good luck!

  6. Thanks for stopping by! Congrats on getting granite, I got mine a year ago & love it. Mine looks like a similar color to yours & is Napoli. I kept my old backsplash which is a little darker than your tumbled marble. You will LOVE it!!
