Sprucing up the Deck

For some reason I prefer to have wood painted. That goes for my deck, as well, so several years ago we painted it with an opaque stain. Last Fall I re-painted the deck again knowing we would be doing a lot of projects in the Spring since we are planning to put our house on the market.
Well Spring is here and it is time spruce up the deck &  plant some flowers in containers and purchase a new umbrella and some pillows. So many of you have posted your beautifully decorated outdoor spaces & I am envious! If any of you have any low or no cost suggestions, I would appreciate them!

Here is our deck before... boring!
I'm glad the photo doesn't show how ugly the grill looks. Some of the inside parts are falling apart and burning my chicken :( so we bought a new inexpensive one. No more burnt chicken! :)

I found a photo of the deck that I took when I was halfway through painting the deck floor.

I went to Lowe's & purchased a few plants ... arborvitae, begonias, daisies, liriope & potatoe vine. See my laptop on the left part of the photo? Yes, I'm addicted to it!!!

I purchased the umbrella & pillows from Walmart. They have a really nice selection this year. I also put up some round string lights on the deck rail that I purchased at Target.

I love how this planter came out. It will look great when it fills out.

I found the planter at a recent trip to Marshalls.

I might add a few more things to make our deck look pretty as I find them, but I  want to keep the deck looking neat & spacious.
Hope everyone had a terrific weekend! We worked on 3 other projects that I will show you this week.

Thanks for stopping by,

Pam

  3. Pam, your deck looks a lot better than mine. Ours isn't that big and needs some work. I love your baskets hanging on the rails. Where did you get those. The metal pattern on them is really pretty. I also need to purchase an umbrella. Your grill looks like ours and it needs some new parts. The racks are all rusty. Lots of work yet to be done.

  6. Now you have just inspired me to do a bit of clean up and prettying up on our deck. We spend farm more time on the front porch and I think a few flowers in pots on the deck would draw us to the back of the house.

    Great mosaic!

  16. You've done a beautiful job of brightening your deck area! I love the hanging basket on your railing & would love to find something similar, as I have 2 that sit flat that would match it. Do you remember where you found yours that attaches to the rail??

  19. I too am a paint the deck person!! I used an opaque really dark brown last summer. I just cannot live with the natural wood color especially when it turns grey. Love what you did!! I love that color and I bet it never looks dirty! THe only problem I have with the dark is that it shows dirt. Love the plants too. I have not gotten that far yet but in a couple weeks I'll set something outside!!
