Wanted to share some beautiful things that were made by my grandmother and passed down to me. (She was born in 1899 in Italy and came to the US in 1906 via Ellis Island.) The handiwork on these items is so wonderful and intricate. She made all of them ~ even the crocheted work. I can't imagine the countless hours that it took to make these lovelies.
When I was little, she made me some pretty dresses from scratch. She made the patterns too. My mom used to tell me how she would see something in a department store window, sketch it, then come home and make the pattern out of a paper bag. Guess I got her ability to do this from her :)
Here are some of the treasures I have...
This one is my favorite...
I love this cloche hat.
Hope you enjoyed looking at these!
Pam
These are true treasures Pam!
ReplyDeleteMy maternal grandmother designed and made patterns for most of my little dresses when I was a child. She cut the patterns from newspaper. My paternal grandmother was an artist with a crochet hook. Amazing women!
Pam, those are amazing!! What treasures to have!! Sewing I just love. That is something I definitely share with my mom and grandmother too. I have always loved just looking at something in a store or photo, then making it myself. Too bad girls don't learn to sew these days. I never have mastered crocheting or knitting though!
ReplyDeleteEverything is so pretty. I envy people that have talent like that. I know these things must mean the world to you.
ReplyDeletePam these are just beautiful! Your grandmother was very talented. Martina
ReplyDeleteOh Pam, these are absolutely lovely....what a heritage! She was very ahead of her time...and yet so perfect for her own!! You'll always cherish these I'm sure, and thank you so much for sharing them with us. It's a picture of another time and place where lace and lovely were daily things...a time I wish was back.

ReplyDeleteStunning! The detail is amazing and I love the way you display your family treasures.
ReplyDeleteOh, these are museum type treasures. Be sure to store them in acid free tissue paper in a safe place such as a cedar chest away from heat and light. I sew and love to design. Mainly I handsmock baby dresses now and do embroidery work on them. Your granmother was very talented and it would be difficult to choose my favorite, but I think it is the white gown with the pink ribbon and of course, THE hat!!!
ReplyDeleteSo beautifully feminine. I love the vintage white one with a sash of pink satin.
