Savannah ... A Great Weekend Getaway

We finally took our postponed weekend to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary! We went to probably my favorite city... Savannah Georgia. It was a little warm and humid for us, but we knew that it would be.  I highly recommend going before it gets hot!

We stayed at the Avia Hotel. We stayed there a couple of years ago when the hotel was new and was a great deal! This time... it was a little pricey, but, hey, we were celebrating our anniversary! The Avia is rated number one on Trip Advisor.com. Speaking of which, Trip Advisor is the website I check whenever we travel for places to stay, for things to do and for great restaurants. The reviews definitely tell all you need to know to help you have a great time! Here's our room:

The swanky bathroom...

This is the bathroom in the lobby!
Wish I had taken a photo of the lobby and the restaurant, but you can go to their website and see more. This hotel has doormen who open the front door of the hotel whenever you go in or out! Nice!

The view from our room...

Ellis square is new and it's fun to watch the kids play in the fountain. The Avia is the building just beyond the square. The great thing about Savannah is that you can park your car and walk everywhere. Our car stayed in the parking garage under the hotel the whole time we were there.

Of course, we spent some time by the pool on the 2nd floor...

The architecture of the city is pretty amazing...

St. John the Baptist cathedral was closed for worship when we went by, but we saw it the last time we were there and it was pretty amazing!

Savannah was designed around squares that are full of big oak trees with Spanish moss hanging from them... I should have taken a photo of Chippewa Square where Forrest Gump was filmed.(the scenes with  Forrest Gump sitting on a park bench telling his story). I'm not sure which square is in my photo.

Bay Street, along the river was pretty fun, too.

Hehe! A funny photo of us taken with Mr. F's Android...

This is where we went to get my chocolate fix on Saturday afternoon :)

Broughton Street has tons of shops...Paris Market was one of my favorites...

It's difficult to choose where to eat since there are sooooo many good restaurants... We ate at Papillote for lunch on Friday...This is fast food, btw!

I can't wait to visit Savannah again. It is truly  a beautiful and fun southern city with so much to see and do.
Definitely a wonderful place for a romantic getaway!

Hope you all have a great week!

Pam

P.S. I was not compensated in  any way for any of the places or websites I mentioned... I just wanted to pass it on!

  7. My sister lives in Georgia and Savannah is her favorite weekend destination. She raves about its charm. They still want to eat at Paula Deen's restaurant but apparently you can't just walk in and expect a seat.

It looks like you had a great time, perfect way to celebrate an anniversary.
