Last Thursday Mr. Fanatic had a couple of days free, so we took a mini-vacation in Asheville, North Carolina. We've been there a couple of times with our girls to see Biltmore House, but Jenny had to work on Thursday, so we went by ourselves. We had to be back on Saturday for Jenny's annual New Year's Eve party, so we drove to Asheville on Thursday and came home on Friday. Asheville is only a few hours from our home, and it's perfect weekend getaway.
I have to tell you about two of the places we went...just in case you ever visit Asheville.
I found both of these places on Trip Advisor and highly recommend using this website whenever you take a trip anywhere...even in your own town!
The Tobacco Barn Antiques was FABULOUS!
It has over 77,000 square foot warehouse full of antiques. Mr. F. said it looked like the warehouse where the ark of the covenant was hidden in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
I loved this china cabinet and would have bought it, but I already bought a similar one on Craigslist a few months ago. Haven't shown it to you because I have to refinish it.
I really love teardrop pulls and turned legs.
These tin letters were pretty cool...
The other place you need to know about is Books & Breadboard. It's a cafe/gift shop that has fabulous food. The service was great too!
Their website is very user friendly...
The menu offers some pretty awesome items. Mr. F had the "Chapter 6" and I had the "Chapter 4". It was the best sandwich I've ever eaten!
This is the "Chapter 4"...roast beef on focaccia and blue cheese aioli...Yum!
The sandwiches are served on a big breadboard and came with veggie chips and a cup full of thinly cut marinated julienned vegetables. Here's Mr. F's "Chapter 6"...definitely a fancy and tasty ham and cheese!
We are definitely going to plan another trip to Asheville very soon.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Happy New Year, again!!!
Pam
Ok Pam, next time, let me know so we can meet for lunch or something!! Glad you had fun!! Looks like we might finally get some real snow tonight, but at the least it will be below zero windchills:-) Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHow fun, love the antique shop, wow, unreal. The restaurant sounds like such a fun place and the food looks delicious. So glad you two got to get away for a little fun trip. Hugs, marty
ReplyDeleteOhhh...I really want to go there! We went to Pigeon Forge a couple months ago and I think I saw a billboard sign for the antique place. I wondered where it was! Were the prices reasonable?
ReplyDeleteThat enormous antique store looks very interesting. Not that I need one more of anything you know.
ReplyDeleteWe loved Asheville when we visited last year! We stayed right near Books and Breadboards and of course toured the Biltmore. What a great time we had. Hoping to go again!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
My heart started to go pitter pat, and I got all jittery at the mere thought of such a field trip!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the shopping suggestion! We want to visit Asheville soon. We recently moved to Tega Cay, SC. Would be a nice weekend trip!
ReplyDeleteSounds like the perfect weekend getaway Pam! Or should I say day and half getaway. So nice that we are so close. I love Asheville and we have been to that Tobacco barn..it was unbelievable! Happy New year to you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips! We will be in Asheville in May and will be sure to check these places out!
ReplyDeleteLooks like wonderful places to visit. We didn't see the The Tobacco Barn antique shop when we were there. We were at Screen Door though and enjoyed. I know I would love to visit the "barn".
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!

Love the Tobacco Barn. It takes several days to see it all though. I love the dark colored piece of furniture. I would love to get a hold of that one and paint it and replace the white armoire in our room with it.
ReplyDeleteOh boy there are a bunch of things in there that catch my eye! You must of been drooling throughout! Can't wait to see you cabinet that you are hiding on us!!
ReplyDeleteThe food in the restaurant looks sooo good!! Now I'm hungry!!
It's so fun discovering the special places that a town has to offer. That antique place looks a-maz-ing!
ReplyDeletePam I am so jealous of you! You and your hubby visit the most wonderful and interesting places. If I ever get some time to travel I am going to email you about where to go in the area we are traveling. LOL! I keep hearing so much more about Ashville lately. For years I've only associated it with Biltmore and the Grove Park Inn. I now think it would be a great place to visit, very artsy! That antique store looks fantastic and the restaurant certainly has such a great catch. I love it!
ReplyDeleteOMG, that place must be amazing! What a fun day!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Pam!
Pam

ReplyDeleteHubby has to go to Asheville a lot for work - I'll have to figure out a way to tag along sans kids!! I would LOVE both of those places!! :)
ReplyDeleteAntiques and food, two of my favorite things! Looks like the antique warehouse had some great items. I would have had a hard time walking away. Hope you're having a grand evening. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse
