Updated Master Bath Shower Reveal

Don't you just feel good when you finish a big project?
I mean completely finished...no little things left to check off the punch list.
I mean COMPLETELY finished!

That's how I feel about our Master Bath.
I was dreading having to update the Mater Bathroom because it has a lot of little and not so little details and lots of molding to paint.
I was also looking forward to having this big project checked off of the "get the house ready to sell" list because there are still a lot of things on that list.

So here's how the shower looked before. We could not put it up for sale looking like that! The brass framed shower was soooooo dated, plus the brass was coming off and the faux marble surround was cracked.

A few weeks ago I posted about the process and told you how Mr. DIY, despite coming down with the flu on his week off, finished the tile for the shower surround and the glass company was able to come out and measure for a frameless enclosure. If you'd like to see that post, you can find it HERE.

We were finally able to paint the bathroom after that, but we lived with our bathroom like this for about 2 weeks before the guys came back. The paint colors are listed down at the bottom.

So happy once this was installed. We couldn't even open the door (per the instructions) for 24 hours.

Mr. DIY installed a new shower head and shower handle/escutcheon.

Here's the before:

And here's the after:

So much better, don't you think?

Next time, I'll show you a few other updates we did in the Master Bath.

Hope you're having a good day!

Pam

PS. the wall color is Sherwin Williams Silver Strand  in an Eggshell finish, mixed at 75%.
The trim paint color is  Valspar Ultra White in Semi -gloss

  1. Yes, quite an improvement! And i like the walls so much better. Very nice, Pam and you are SO lucky to have a husband who does this kind of thing! We have some good friends here who just redid their entire bathroom after many years of procrastinating. But he is a free lance contractor here in the village…so of course the new room is perfect! but oh the details. Endless. We are, someday, going to work on our kitchen but for now I just can't face it! And tomorrow I am having 34 women over for my women's group: was hoping to have it renovated but no such luck!

    1. A kitchen is a big deal Libby! I used to tell my clients, when I designed kitchens, that remodeling a kitchen was like major surgery! We're right in the middle of a kitchen reno at our mountain cottage and we had to stop to get the house ready. We were just getting to the good stuff...countertops and backsplash. I'll be glad to get back there, but it won't be until after we have an offer on the house.
We still have a pretty good list at home, but we only have until the end of this month to finish- then staging and misc things after that.
Have fun with your ladies! Hope all goes well.

  4. I noticed that you kept your shower pan and wondered why. I have a shower I'd like to redo also. I've seen others tear out their shower completely and rebuild using a red membrane. What are your shower measurements? Thanks. Your bath looks fabulous.

    1. Hey Marlyn, It's a new shower pan-- the old one was worn. We decided to use another shower pan because it was faster and we didn't have much time. It's a good thing because My husband came down with the flu after demo-day on the shower! He had taken a week off to do the shower and it took him several days to recover. We also chose to do a shower pan because many of the homes in our area and price point still had shower pans - many still had the old framed shower enclosures and faux marble walls, so having a tiled and frameless enclosure is only in a few homes. As to the measurement, our shower is pretty small. It's 39 deep x 37 wide. Thanks for the compliment.

  5. Oh Pam this looks wonderful! The tile and glass enclosure are perfect and I like the new wall color. You two are workaholics! I hope it all pays off in the end! Kudos to hubby on all this DIY stuff! My hubby won't try such things but he can repair just about anything electronic and computer oriented! Have s great weekend!

  6. Mr. DIY is pretty awesome to have around, he's very talented. Is he a carpenter or contractor by profession? You have made so many updates before selling that I would have never thought of; like tiling the shelf under the sinks. That's one of those, 'why didn't I think of that?' Have you figured out what percentage you'll be able to increase the price by doing the minor upgrades? Not the shower, but the not-so-necessary, but nice-to-have upgrades. :) By the way, how are you feeling?

    1. Thanks Donna! He's not a carpenter or contractor by profession, he sells soap to restaurants and hospitals!
Houses in our area need to be move-in ready and we're competing with a lot of new home nearby, which is why we're doing all the updates. Move-in ready home go fast and houses that need a bunch of little fixes linger. Our house is almost 16 years old and there's some wear and tear on it, so we're doing as much as we possibly can to make it look new/newer. We still have some things we aren't replacing and I hope that doesn't hold us back.
I've been feeling pretty good most days lately, thanks for asking. Working on the house every single day caught up with me this week and I had a couple of not so good days, but I can't complain....I'm a lot better off than I was last year!

  7. That bathroom looks absolutely nice. I like the overall design. How much it's cost you to complete that design fully?

    1. Hey Nancy, Mr. DIY installed the tile and shower pan and new lighting and that was about $1000. New faucet parts were about $350. Paint was another $100 and the frameless shower surround was installed by a company and that was $1,550.
