Mini Bathroom Makeover at the Mountain Cottage Part 2

A few days ago, you saw how it was imperative that we replace the bathroom floor and toilet because you couldn't sit down on it without feeling like it was going to end up in the crawl space below.

Haha, that's exactly how it felt.

Remember, this is how our bathroom looked when we viewed the house.

Most of the mini makeover was finished at this point, except the vanity was just not right. It was too dark and the dimensions were not quite right for the space.  We call it a mini makeover because it's only 2/3rds of the bathroom and we didn't want to spend a lot of money on it since we hope to turn it into a laundry room in a few years.

The "mini makeover" made a huge difference and it's so nice to have a clean, functional bathroom.

A few months ago, this little beauty came across my newsfeed on Facebook.
Of course I clicked on link, which led to Lowes.com.  To our good luck, this vanity was on sale for $199. I showed it to Mr. DIY and he said he liked it, so it was ordered online and he picked it up at the Lowe's near our mountain house a few days later.

The new vanity gave us a little more storage than the last vanity. It was also a few inches wider and a few inches shallower. These dimensions were perfect for our space.

Mr. DIY had already made a towel hook for the towel by the sink and a double hook for by the shower before we found the new vanity.

I asked if he could build some floating shelves over the toilet to add some storage. To save time, he found some perfect floating shelves at our local Lowe's.
I'll post how easy they are to install on another post.

Here is our finished mini bathroom makeover:

Baskets are scarce now, so I brought these from home. They are perfect to keep toilet paper (top shelf) and and towels and washcloths (lower shelf). Qtips, cottonballs and Epsom Salt are kept in pint Ball jars on the lower shelf. The painted bird artwork is the work of our youngest daughter, a high school project.

We found the mirror, rug and the shower curtain at TJ Maxx. The little stool was found at Hobby Lobby (online). The light, vanity, faucet, shelving, toilet  flooring and Ultra White Signature satin paint were all from Lowe's. Two little additions were the toilet handle and vanity hardware were found on Amazon.

Another basket on the toilet tank or maybe a little picture hanging on the wall below the shelves would look great.

Another WONDERFUL addition to this bathroom is a fan with light. (for obvious reasons). We originally purchased it for the World's Smallest Half Bath upstairs, but it was too big. I have always wanted a fan in here, but a fan is a great idea for a laundry room too, especially if you keep a litter box in there, or for general ventilation.

Again, here's the bathroom before:

I'd say it's quite a difference!

What do you think?

    1. Thanks Heather! Definitely a small bathroom, but it seems larger now that the vanity is turned and not as deep.
