An Easy Christmas Wreath

Would you like a new Christmas wreath because the one you have isn't quite cutting it?

It's super easy to change things up a bit and give your old wreath a new look. 
That's what I did this year.

I loved the 3 wreaths that hung in our breakfast room windows at Christmas. They have some glittery sparkle to them and I just changed them up with a different bow every year and maybe some berries. 

This year, all the Christmas decorations coordinated with our granddaughter's birthday party, so the first thing I did to the wreaths was flock them. 
It was super easy.

After drying 24 hours, I started decorating with the same elements as the birthday party decorations: faux pink roses, pink and gold ribbon and I added some glittery gold branches and tulle, like I added to the Christmas tree.  Nothing was glued on and can easily be changed out next year. 

I scrunched up 36" long pieces of pale pink tulle and set them on one side of the wreath.  No need to glue it on because the needles hold them in.

A faux rose on a stem...

I cut 23" of pink wired ribbon and looped it 3 times and stapled it.

The faux pine needles also held the ribbon securely.

3 faux rose buds were added...

19" of gold ribbon, looped twice and stapled...

Finished product!

 I made 4 wreaths total the same way...

The faux pink roses and pink ribbon will be easily taken out and changed up with next year's colors...or maybe I'll take everything off and add some pine cones to make a Winter wreath.

Inspiration From Christmas Past

With Thanksgiving being so late this year, I feel like I'm already behind for Christmas.

34 days and counting...it's hard to believe. 

I'd better get busy....

Last year I made some mini wreaths made from cuttings from some holly shrubs in our yard. 

They were truly easy to make and they cost zero, zip, nada, since I already had everything on hand.

We plan on being home for Thanksgiving, so next weekend would be a great time to decorate the front porch. I still have most of the green cypress  and the tiny blue spruce I purchased last year, so I will be using those along with a few new additions that will be harvested from the Mountain Cottage.  We're  planning on four Christmas stockings hanging from our mantel this year again. Our daughter is going to be spending Christmas with us here in Charlotte. You can see the rest of last year's mantel HERE.

Unplanned vignettes  made with old and new found items are the most fun to put together. It's always satisfying when something turns out pretty. 

...could be as simple as some ornaments and a few pinecones in a footed silver tray. 

Our Breakfast Room is my favorite room to decorate. There's something about a single wreath in each window that makes me smile. 

I love repetition in design.

and order.

 Even though we don't go down to the basement much, I love doing some simple festive decorations down in the basement family room. Maybe we don't spend much time down there because of the ancient tv and weak internet connection. 

hmmmm, sounds like a project to me.

One treat we make every year at Christmas is Buckeyes. 

We make a whole bunch of them.

We roll them, dip them, wrap them all pretty and give them to neighbors and friends and even save a few for ourselves. You can read how we make them HERE just in case you'd like to make a few of your own.

Just a warning though, eating these will ruin Reese's peanut butter cups for you. 

So sorry.

And after all that decorating, baking, buying presents and wrapping, remember to buy yourselves some pretty flowers to brighten your day. 

So, do you have a plan as to how you'll get everything finished before the 25th?

I have no idea how we'll get it all finished, but somehow we always do.

My attitude these days is whatever gets done, gets done. 

The only thing that matters is celebrating Christmas with family and maybe a few friends.

Easy Christmas Wreaths

I love the little Boxwood wreaths you see everywhere. They are classic and look great and are perfect for Christmas.  I could definitely use several around the house, but the problem is they are expensive.

As luck laziness low energy would have it, I never got around to trimming our Japanese Holly shrubs in early Fall as I usually do. Every time I'd go outside, I'd beat myself up for not getting it done...

...that is until a few days ago...

...when it dawned on me that those lovely little shoots could be used to make some wreaths since Japanese Holly looks like Boxwood.

I also had a box full of plain little wreaths  up in my office/craft room and didn't have to go out and buy anything.

No trip to Hobby Lobby needed!

If you need a little wreath, look at the evergreen shrubs and trees outside in your yard to see what you can bring inside. I went out and clipped off some shoots and just stuck them into the wreath.

No glue or wire needed.

So simple.

I just clipped them to the length I thought would look good and stuck them in the wreath. If the stems were too long, I just cut them shorter.

I kept putting more stems until I liked the way it looked.

So far I've made 3 little wreaths and this one ended up on my mantel. I plan on making 3 more for various vignettes around the house.
Guess I won't be trimming back the shrubs until after Christmas next year, as well.

Still waiting on a large wreath I ordered for the mantel. I'll show you the whole Christmas mantel when it arrives...oh, and after I make one more burlap and lace stocking...

There's always something more that needs to be done...
