Bridal Shower Inspired Tablescape In The Dining Room

Last week I showed you the Bridal shower inspired tablescape in the Breakfast Area-
The beautiful floral arrangement in the Dining Room were calling for a tablescape too.

Mr. DIY took out the leaf so the table was back to it's regular size. I left the tablecloth, the burlap runner, the wood round with candles and my grandmother's salt and pepper shakers.

I just shopped the house for placemats, dishes, utensils and wine glasses. The china is our wedding pattern Limoge Artois Green. The salad plates are from HomeGoods, as are the placemats, napkins and wine glasses.

Oh, I love those flowers...

Fabulous Floral Centerpiece

Last week,  I shared the Bridal Shower our daughter (and a friend) hosted for a friend at our home a few Saturdays ago.
It was so nice to celebrate a happy occasion in our home.
I really had fun with the flowers and they were simple and relatively inexpensive to do.

When Jenny and I went to Trader Joes to pick up the flowers the day before the shower,  half of the flower section was empty as they were having their 50 year celebration - 11 years in Charlotte. I was a little worried.

Even with less to chose from, Jenny found some really pretty bouquets and they were only $2.99 and 3.99 each. She picked out 2 Stock, 2 bouquets of Eucalyptus branches, 2 mini bouquets of roses, and one bouquet of pink carnations.

I thought simple bouquets in white pitchers would look great on the food and dessert tables and would be quick and easy to do.

I wanted a fabulous centerpiece for the Dining Room. Since the dining room table was extended to 9 1/2 ft, so the centerpiece needed to be rectangular.

The metal container I use to hold art supplies in my office was the right size, but it was painted black.  I've been wanting to paint it white for a long time and this was the perfect time for a new paint job. 

When I first bought it, the metal container looked like this:

I used a  Valspar Interior Latex Ultra white in satin. This would be the 2nd time this container was painted.
Once painted, I set four - One Quart Mason jars in the container and cut the flower stems so they looked good in the jars.

A photo just doesn't describe how gorgeous this centerpiece is and the smell is divine!

Here, you can see the Mason jars with the moss pulled away.

It took about 4 small bouquets to fill the 4 jars...1 Stock (tall white flowers), 1 Eucalyptus, 2 mini bouquets ($13.96 total) and some green Spanish moss. A custom arrangement this size could have easily cost $200 or more.

She spent a total of $23.93 (I already had the moss, the jars and the containers) for all of the flowers for the shower. I always love the flowers at Trader Joe's, especially the low price.

Bring The Beauty In

 

I often go out to the garden and cut whatever looks interesting and bring it inside and put it in a vase. There aren't always flowers blooming in the yard, but there are a few in the Spring. 

Sitting outside yesterday looking out onto the woods I noticed how the leaves of the once little Japanese Maple on the edge of the patio were looking so red and vibrant. 

 Then I noticed the tree was looking a little overgrown and droopy. A few branches had grown and were drooping right over several of the nandina in front of it. 

Took me about a minute to go get some sheers to cut those vibrant red Japanese Maple branches.

Several of the  peonies had grown large too and some of the big heavy flowers were practically on the ground. 

I cut the droopy peonies and brought them inside and put them in a vase with some water with the branches.

They look perfect on the table in the Breakfast Room.

Think I'll go outside and cut a few blooms off one of the Knockout Rose bushes like my daughter did the other day.

Flowers For The Garden

Went to Lowe's the other day and picked up some pretty new additions for my garden with a gift card given to me by my youngest daughter for Mother's Day.

As I was deciding where the new flowers would go, a new friend  joined me in the garden. He wasn't too thrilled to see me, even when I brought him some lettuce.

 

I can't remember the name of the taller pink flower, but the other beauties are lantana, coreopsis and purple coneflower. They all like a sunny spot and hopefully they will like their new home. These flowers don't need a lot of watering once they get established. The lantana didn't even droop a little after being transplanted and  being in the sun. As an added plus, lantana and coneflowers attract butterflies.

I never get tired of looking at gorgeous trees....

or pretty flowers.

It's suppose to be 100 degrees again today. Really, it's only suppose to be 91, but it felt like 100 yesterday! What a way to start off Summer. We were having such nice weather last week and weekend....I would definitely love more of that weather.

Bring Beauty Indoors

Hey everyone! Thanks so much for the great conversation on Friday and all your great comments on watermarking. I've noticed some of you who didn't do this before have started watermarking your photos. Yay! I know it's an added step, but it's definitely worth doing.

As I was doing household chores today, I was wishing I had a gorgeous bouquet of flowers like this one that I brought home from Trader Joe's awhile back. I  love green and white even though it's fall. Maybe my craving for flowers was due to all the rain we've been having these past few days.

I can't always rush off to the TJ's to pick one of these up and sometimes I just don't want to spend the extra money. (For all of you Dave Ramsey fans, I'm a money nerd).

I do, however, love flowers and foliage around the house. Don't you? 

When I went out on the deck today I could smell our gardenia bushes were in full bloom again, so I grabbed my clippers and cut a bunch.

I bet you have something beautiful in your yard that you could bring indoors, as well.

Whenever you cut flowers to put in water, be sure to cut off the foliage below the water line.

Then just put in a pretty vase, pitcher or glass.

Gardenias are so fragrant!

Had to pick something with fall colors, so I picked a bunch of Marigolds I had out back.

I put both vases in my foyer to greet any guests that might stop by.
