NEW DRESSER FOR THE MOUNTAIN COTTAGE BEDROOM

I love that I get to show you something pretty for the upstairs bedroom at the Mountain Cottage. Y'all know I love Craigslist and scour the furniture and antiques section several times a week. One of the furniture pieces I've been looking for is a low, wide dresser with rectangular lines in the drawers.

Well, a while ago, I found such a gorgeous dresser and it was perfect.

It was in perfect condition and the finishes were perfect and I didn't have to do a thing to it. Yup. Zip. Zero. Nada.

I wanted a dresser with a stained wood top. Check!

It had to be 60-66 inches wide to fit in the space.
This one was 65 1/2". Check!

The dresser was very sturdy (and heavy) and made by a good furniture manufacturer.

This space is where my grandmother's French chair will go if I ever have it recovered and after I refinish the wood.

The hardware on the dresser is perfect and is original to the piece. I LOVE the rectangular lines on the drawers. The paint finish is actually a very, very light gray, but it looks white to me, which is what I was looking for. It was a little more than I wanted to pay at $375, but I didn't have to do a thing to it, so it was worth the price.
I found the dresser after scouring Craigslist for months. There it finally was! It was being offered for sale at a little resale shop nearby, so I called them right away and told them to hold it for me for 1 hour. Good thing I was all dressed and ready to go.
It sat in our living room at home for several months because it was so heavy that I couldn't help Mr. DIY lift it to put it into the car and couldn't help him take it out of the car and up the stairs at the mountain cottage.

Our daughter's boyfriend helped Mr. DIY put it into the van and Mr. DIY's friend who came up to help him build the woodshed one Saturday helped him take it out of the van and  bring it up the stairs.
Many thanks to them both!

Here it is in all it's glory!

  2. Perfection! I used to look at Craigslist quite a bit and we sold a few thing on it when we lived in the Lowcountry. Now that we live about 5 miles from an auction house, we just go there weekly and pick up some things. Y'all have made awesome progress on your cabin. I have some decorative fish plates that I haven't listed in the shop yet that would look great in your cabin!

  4. This is a beautiful piece, Pam. Like you, if I found the exact piece I was looking and on top of it didn't have to do a thing to it, I'd pay more for it. It's so worth it because this is forever furniture that could be used anywhere. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving the sweet comment. I'm off to see more of your blog and especially your mountain cottage. ~ Nancy

  7. Pam, It is beautiful. Not having to paint is a big deal for me. Because that is a Hickory piece I can imagine it was quite expensive originally. I don't use Craigslist much but my booth partner buys and sells there all the time. She really scores on Craig's List. Have a terrific weekend, Olive
