Solar Tube For The Upstairs Bath

Mr. Fanatic finished another project on the list. 

It actually wasn't on any of my lists, but Mr. F. though it would be a great idea to put in a solar tube skylight in the upstairs bathroom while we were getting our house re-roofed. The upstairs bathroom doesn't have a window and definitely needed some natural light.

We had the roofers put in the top part of the solar tube.

I don't know about you, but I would have a difficult time cutting a hole in a perfectly good roof!

A hole was cut in the drywall ceiling in the bathroom and Mr. F. put the flange on. Looking through you can see into the attic.

The ducting was connected with the part that goes through the roof.

  

Another piece of ducting attaches to the flange in the bathroom ceiling. All the light you see is from the hole in the roof. As you can see here, an additional piece of ducting was needed to connect the two.

The ducting comes in a couple of pieces and had to be connected with screws and duct tape.

Notice how dark the bathroom is when the solar tube is covered up...

...the solar tube brings quite a bit of natural light into the room.

The solar tube really adds the perfect amount of light and the bathroom looks great with the vanity light on

Now that the solar tube is installed, we he can get back to the list...

Projects Accomplished!!!

Yesterday I told you about the little surprises in the basement and how they kept me from doing the projects I had planned for last weekend. If you missed it, you can read about it here. I did get those two things finished & am happy to cross them off of my list! We went to Lowe's and picked up some spray paint. This time I wanted to try Rustoleum's Espresso Brown because Lynda over at Focal Point used it on a patio project and it came out great. Go check it out when you get a minute. I have to tell you that this can is much easier on the hands to use, but it is a bit more costly at $6.98.

My first project was the artwork in my upstairs bath. Since the walls were beige, some contrast was definitely needed, so I painted the accessories dark brown. If you notice in the photo the frame on the picture is gold.

So, I thought it would look better painted brown. Here's what it looked like Before:

Here's  after ....the frame goes much better now.

Ahhh, that's better, don't ya think?

My second project was the bench on our basement patio. I want to show you the whole patio finished so I'm just going to give you a sneak peak.

I'm so excited to get this space spruced up because it is my FAVORITE place to sit in my whole backyard. So, I'm off to Lowe's AGAIN to get some more spray paint and some plants. I'm glad they are only 5 minutes away.

Upstairs Bath Progress

I wish I had a true before of the upstairs bath, but I don't. I can only tell you that it had lavender walls and Waverly floral rugs & shower curtain. (Update: my sister Lynne emailed me & sent me a lovely before photo. It is below the next photo.) We painted it back in January a neutral beige because we are going to put our house on the market soon. About a month ago we tiled the floor with the same tile as the Master Bath. It was much easier to do this bath than our Master!

Here is the bathroom painted lavender.

 

Here's what it looked like after we painted.Uhhh, can you say BORING? This was the first room in the house to be BEIGE. So, I knew I had to do something!

Here's the tile floor installed. It looks a lot warmer and feels so good on your feet!

I would love to frame out the mirror in a dark painted color, but it would add another project (moving the light fixture down). I also have to find some interesting accessories for the counter. The artwork on the opposite wall is my next project.  The frame is going to get a fresh coat of dark paint!

I replaced the gold framed artwork with these faux stone reliefs which were in my hallway. I never really liked them there, so I painted them green & then a brown over it.

Love the cost .... $0

I also painted the little drawers that hold cotton balls & Q-tips. Here's the before:

I think it still needs something. Maybe a different color on the edge and on the little balls on the drawer fronts.

I still have a little work to do in this bath, but it has definitely come a long way!
