We've had the furniture in our Family Room arranged the same way for at least 10 years. Our sofa before the grey one shown below was so huge and oversized that it didn't look good anywhere else... so there it stayed. The big problem with this room is that it definitely did not feel cozy and therefore no one sat in here except for my daughter and her boyfriend.
Because the tv and all the stereo equipment was in the niche over the mantel, I never bothered decorating it.
Because the tv and all the stereo equipment was in the niche over the mantel, I never bothered decorating it.
Taking the tv out of the niche caused a big mess for us and our family room looked like this for awhile. You can already see that the tv is out of the niche and it's hidden in the armoire. More on that another time...
I didn't like the one armoire on the left side of the fireplace because it left the room unbalanced, so we found a matching one on Craigslist. Definitely much less expensive than building custom bookcases!
All three of the "end tables" are temporary. The two matching ones on either side of the sofa are tray tables I found at Bombay several years back. I brought up the two lamps from downstairs and the table with the tablecloth on it came from the living room.
I found a pharmacy lamp at HomeGoods and set it next to one of the leather chairs. Don't you just love HomeGoods? (Marshall's and TJ Maxx, too!)
I would love to replace the chairs with upholstered chairs, but they are definitely not in the budget right now.
I am currently scouring Craigslist, Overstock.com and everywhere else, trying to find two end tables and a round pedestal table. I am hoping to find two new lamps so that the bronze urn lamps can be returned to their former place in the basement.
As if all that isn't enough to do all at the same time, I'm still trying to decide on a paint color for the family room... I LOVE the new paint color in the breakfast room, but I think I want the paint in the family room to be a little lighter.
The best thing about changing the furniture arrangement in the Family Room is that we all love to sit in there together now. It seems so much cozier.
BTW, the tv is in the left armoire on a slide out swivel shelf. I will show you that soon.
Hope you had a great weekend! I am joining my husband in North Myrtle Beach for the day since he's been working there since Friday and needs to be at the same place tomorrow, as well.

Pam I LOVE the new layout in your family room!! Love your new lamp too! As for a paint color, how about going one or two shades lighter on the color chart with the color you used in your kitchen. Martina
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful! I love the cozy feel Pam. Changing up furniture is such a big job, however after you are done, you think, why didn't I do this before?
ReplyDeleteIt looks great Pam! I love the two armoires flanking the fireplace. That was sure lucky to find a matching one! Great find on the lamp too--it's so neat!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip!
Pam
The new layout of your family room is really nice and what a stroke of luck to find a matching armoire!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find on the cabinets! Lucky!! Hey why not move the round table with the cloth to the right of the sofa so it's between the sofa and the chair? Put one urn lamp on it and take the other urn lamp away? Urn lamps are classic but you might like it better as an individual look rather than a pair? I bet you don't need that 2nd lamp on the left anyway? Just a thought :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the changes! Especially the pharmacy lamp!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful changes! The new look is elegant and fresh. Thanks for sharing.

I just cannot believe you found a match to your armoire on Craigs list. That is just flat out amazing! I definitely love the look of two of them. You are so smart and lucky with those cabinets lately. I can't wait to see what color you choose for this room. It is looking wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYour before and after certainly look lovely, you have a beautiful home. I really like your dining area, it looks both sophisticated and cozy. Good luck choosing your paint color, oops, almost forgot, I CANNOT believe you found a matching armoire, what are the odds?
ReplyDeleteWhile you're in NMB, be sure to check out the Tuesday Morning there. They usually have a good selection of furniture. Would also suggest looking at the Depot in Concord. I have two of those tv caves and HATE THEM! I would drywall them up in a minute, if I didn't have a husband! ;)
ReplyDeleteBTW, you and Nester could be twins.
ReplyDeleteYour room really does look cozy with the new arrangement. Looks like you got quite the workout moving everything!
ReplyDeleteHi, The rooms look great! What color is in the breakfast nook?
