Happy Fall Everyone!

I think we're going to have normal Fall weather  here in the Carolinas this year (crossing fingers).

The heat and humidity turned off a few weeks ago and now we're enjoying warm sunshine with cool breezes.

Cooler weather makes for gorgeous Fall colors. I'm hoping to see the trees at our mountain cottage turning  vibrant oranges, reds and yellows. This photo was taken a few months after we bought our cozy cottage in early Fall of 2013. 

Every year since then, I have been chasing this photo, but the colors have never rivaled the ones in this pic. One year kids were wearing short sleeves on Halloween. Another year we had very little rain. Heat and lack of rain aren't the ingredients needed for spectacular Fall colors.

The copious amounts of rain we've had in 2020 and the weather cooling off on time at the end of August, should produce fabulous Fall colors.

Then, of course, we have to be at our mountain house when peak color hits.

Some Fall porches have been my favorite. The one shown below was one of those, but as I recall, I was sweating as I was decorating it for Fall. You can read about it HERE.

The Screened Porch at the house we live in is the perfect place to spread a little Fall. This space is a great place to sit and relax or eat a dinner when the weather is nice. You can seen more of our Fall Screened Porch HERE. 

A simple Fall craft with supplies you might already have around the house is a good way to decorate without having to spend any money, especially if money is tight this year.  You can see that post HERE.

Setting a pretty Fall table is also a festive way to refresh the house for the Autumn season. Gather things you already have around the house, and if you have kids, let them decorate the table every day. You can find more pics of this tablescape HERE.

Fall Tablescape In The New Breakfast Room

Hello friends!

Those of you who stop by regularly know that the Breakfast Room at our last house was my favorite room to decorate and to do a tablescape in. The shape of the room with the 3 windows and a door to the deck really brought in a lot of light, especially in the morning. The long white sheers on all the windows gave a dramatic feel to the space.

The Breakfast Room at our new house still has a ways to go and doesn't inspire me yet. That's probably why this is the first tablescape in our new house after living here for a couple of months. 
Of course some colorful flowers helps make any space feel pretty.

I bought a pair of the same Ikea Vivan sheers that we had at our last house. They are easy to clean and don't cost a lot if they need to be replaced. As you can see, Mr. DIY "jerry-rigged"  the chain on the chandelier. It was too low and we were always hitting our head on it. I'm still deciding on which chandelier I want to buy to replace our current one. We also have to decide where the new placement will be, which will be determined by the piece of furniture that I want Mr. DIY to build to hold some of my extra dishes, pitchers and plate stands.  

Sorry for the rabbit trail... back to the fall tablescape...
A vintage tablecloth is laid over a simple white one.

Mikasa Italian Countryside are my everyday dishes and some green salad plates that were purchased at HomeGoods several years ago were added to that. The glasses are vintage "Boopie" from Anchor Hocking.

I think the screened porch has replaced the Breakfast Room as my favorite space. I love spending time out there sitting in my mom's wicker rocking chair. The table is new and I'm working on adding a couple of pieces of furniture. These things take time.

Yesterday was Mr. DIY's birthday and our daughter brought home some little Bundt cakes from a little place nearby called Nothing But Bundts. They were delicious!

Fall In The Breakfast Room

The first room I start to  decorate for a season is our Breakfast Room. It's an easy room to decorate; I just start by setting the table.

Looking Forward To Fall

 I know Fall is still a month or so off, but the weather cools off around here at the end of August, which is only  a few more weeks away. In fact, mornings are already a little cooler and the days aren't as hot as they have been all summer long. I know we might have another heat spell, but it's comforting to know that all that hot summer weather is behind us. 

This year I'm really looking forward to mums in the garden...

Fall Tablescape

After spending a week at the cottage last week, I was ready to make something pretty. 

If you saw the Mountain Cottage (before) House Tour of the interior, you will understand why. 

Not only was the interior looking pretty bad and in need of an update, it was 

REALLY dirty.....

as in "it hadn't been cleaned in years and someone who lived there was a smoker" dirty.  

Add to that, we were basically camping in the house as there is no furniture there yet, and we were sleeping on air mattresses (but we bought 3" thick gel foam pads to go on top), 

and add to that.....I was stung over 8 times on my left arm by yellow jackets because I mistakenly stepped on a yellow jacket nest...

oh, and we had no internet or tv.

All I could think of all week was that we are soooooo spoiled and blessed living where we do back home. (and of course, because we have a mountain cottage to reno)

After coming home, I definitely needed a little prettiness, so I did the easiest thing to pretty up the house and that was to set a pretty table in the Breakfast Room. 

I already had all of the dishes, chargers, napkins, placemats, etc.

But, I did splurge on these little guys. Found them at Trader Joe's for 99 cents each.

They also had these gorgeous mums for $5.99

Just couldn't resist these beauties. Of course, I will prune them back and plant them in a sunny spot after they are finished blooming.

Fall Tablescape

This Fall is something to celebrate, especially after such a HOT summer. I'm even hoping for a COLD winter with lots of snow so that all the mosquitoes will be gone and next summer there will be fewer of them. I don't know about you but  it seems like every time I go outside for  5 minutes, I come in with at least 3 mosquito bites. I'd put a long white sleeved shirt on if I was going out to work in the garden, but I always thought I could get away without being bitten if I was only going out for 5 minutes. 

WRONG!

Ah, but I digress...

I've changed up the Breakfast Table decor to incorporate more muted tones of blue and green, with some brown and orange thrown in for good measure.

I keep the Breakfast Table simple. 

Y'all know it doesn't have to be fancy or perfect to be beautiful, right? 

I used my second favorite salad plates that I found many years ago at Marshall's. The dinner plates are Mikasa, Italian Countryside. They go with everything. Gotta love that!

Just use whatever you have, and if you don't have much, take a walk out to your yard and see what pods or nuts are out there. Just remember to freeze any nuts you bring in for at least a week in order to kill any critters!

See, simple....not too cluttered.
